Downtown Napa’s Kitchen Door Serves Guests an Authentic Cultural Experience

Cuisine, Napa, Travel, Wine Country

If you’re looking for a variety of worldly dishes and a menu that assures you’ll never get bored, Napa’s Kitchen Door is the place to be. Chef Todd Humphries opened Kitchen Door in Oxbow Public Marketplace to serve a variety of his favorite dishes to locals and visitors of Downtown Napa. The pricing is accessible with an eclectic menu that spans across a variety of authentic cultural dishes. He serves everything from American classics like roast chicken to authentic Japanese ramen.

A traditional Hummus Mezze Plate

On my visit to Downtown Napa in partnership with the Do Napa website, I stopped by Kitchen Door while visiting the Oxbow Public Marketplace. First, I started with their fantastic Hummus Mezze Plate. This was a traditional middle eastern Za’atar spiced flatbread, marinated olives, labneh curried potato, pickled beets, and crudité. The labneh was a very unique accompaniment and is yogurt which is strained through a cheesecloth for several hours. It then forms a ball that has a taste very similar to cream or goat cheese. The chef always utilizes fresh and in season ingredients.

This was probably one of the best traditional short rib dishes I’ve had.

Next, I ordered the Korean Style Short Ribs paired with Napa’s Sangiovese Krupp Brothers Pinot 2016. Their short ribs are served with bacon, kimchi, and mushroom fried rice. This was probably one of the best traditional short rib dishes I’ve had. The seasonings were spot on and the meat was cooked perfectly. Though short rib is typically a very fatty cut of meat, it is cooked down for several hours and then grilled. The short rib turns out lean, tender, and full of flavor when prepared correctly.

Kitchen Door gets their short rib from Oxbow Public Marketplaces Five Dot Ranch

In addition, what intrigued me even more about this dish was that Kitchen Door gets their short rib from Oxbow Public Marketplaces Five Dot Ranch. This Downtown Napa butcher shop offers endless cuts of beef. You can even select a cut of beef and have them grill it fresh for an additional $12. It also comes with 2 sides! I love when a market place utilizes the ingredients from each other’s shops.
